Seeing Yourself
How many times do we see a picture – in which includes ourselves in it – and like things about it while picking ourselves apart?!?
I just did this today. A picture was sent to me from a great day we had and yet I realized my reaction. Awe, Belle (a Pony that I love dearly), and feeling all the love and warm fuzzy feelings – – heart eye emoji! While my next feeling of – oh, me – – disgust emoji.
- Those jeans Tammy – not the most flattering.
- Look at your legs/thighs!
- While also picking the underneath part of – yeah but if you had shorts on, your legs aren’t cute anyway. Aren’t tone like a lot of people’s. You have your Momma’s spider veins, varicose veins…
BUT THEN I heard. You didn’t even know the picture was taken so it’s not like you are posed. You are in a moment, your element, your glory – loving what brings you joy!
I thought, you know you can use this for good. While also thinking how I don’t want to because why would I want to highlight my flaws in which I’m insecure about, drawing attention to areas I want to hide away. But that’s the problem, the world has us looking at things wrong. I told myself: What do you have that is great?
- I have other jeans that might be a little more flattering! LOL
- Has my body changed, absolutely. Do I wish my legs were as fat as they were back in the day when I thought they were fat in the first place – absolutely! (I’m sure you all have heard that saying before).
- Having my Momma’s spider veins is a small part of life. The fact that I have her heart that loves is ultimately way more important!
The quote: “A picture is worth a thousand words” means something different for each person (from the individual taking the picture to each viewing eye). Lets work together to gather beautiful, relatable perspectives. Rather than discounting ourselves with an ugly perspective.
